CHALLENGE 13: GONE TO POT!

Scenario: Plucking weeds, tending to the nursery and fending yourself from an onslaught of peckish Vampire Chickens, all normal fare in the Conservatory where you’ll find this next challenge. Equipped with the endowed garlic shooter, Ol’ Edna, Cooper will be tasked with taking out as many Vampire Chickens as possible in the confines of a single minute. Be sure to make every shot count however; if you send a Vampire Chicken hurtling into the fragile pottery dotted around the Conservatory, the challenge will end prematurely! You’ll have to be sharper than the fangs of these feathered fiends with 17 being the expected number for a Platinum medal that you can sink your teeth into…

Strategy: As you start off you’ll spot a few large flower pots like pillars around the Conservatory; these are surrounded by fragile pottery that will smash to bits if you fire a Vampire Chicken towards their bounty, so avoid doing so at all costs. You should manage to take out the first few without much issue, just be sure to angle yourself adequately to ensure the Chickens roll harmlessly down the aisles rather than into the pottery. Once you’ve gotten a feel for this, we’ll tilt the entire challenge to our favor by exploiting a camping grounds in the corner of the map. From where you start off, run off towards the right and you’ll spot a large flower pot decorated with a blue pattern and leafy plant overhead in the corner of the Conservatory. Squeeze past this plant and you’ll find yourself the corner, manipulate the camera so that you have a clear view of your backside – so that Cooper turns towards you when you tap down on the control stick – and a clear path to the left – which will be somewhat obscured by the large flower pot. Firing towards the camera and towards the path to the left will have no danger of breaking any of the flower pots, so camping here will allow you to rack up a high score without any of the inherent danger of breaking pottery. From here you’ll just have to defend your own; the Vampire Chickens will crow just before they jump atop your head and begin pecking away at your stamina, so take them out quickly before they’ve gotten a chance. You’re essentially made blind as you won’t know where the Vampire Chickens are coming from, but if you pay attention to Cooper’s subtle shuffling when he raises Ol’ Edna in a certain direction it’s likely to have a Chicken creeping up towards you. While you certainly don’t want to go trigger happy during this challenge, keep an eye on your supply and fire off a warning shot every once and a while down the left path and towards the camera; more often than not you’ll manage to pelt a Chicken that you didn’t know was coming. If you can exploit this little advantage you’ll easily send your counter climbing up to – and in some cases past – the required 17 Vampire Chickens for your Platinum Medal.
