Top 5 Pushover Rare Bosses That Shouldn’t Have Bothered

Similar to the real world, bosses in Rare‘s titles are employed for the sole purpose of instilling fear amongst everyone underneath them and getting as little work done as possible in the mean time. Taking this interpretation a little further when bringing in the work ethic of your utterly incompetent boss is also relevant, as Rare has featured their fair share of bumbling bosses that could have been replaced with a crudely drawn frowny face on the wall for greater effect. In stark contrast to our previous offering of the Top 5 Villians Who Didn’t Know When To Quit, this list offers up a few prospective boss candidates that should have quit altogether before players were unfortunate enough to run into them. These are the Top 5 Pushover Rare Bosses that Shouldn’t Have Bothered, a list that’s sure to have you cleaning out your desk if you’re caught reading it at work…

#5. FREDDY KRUEGER – A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (NES)

Facing off against four insomniacs slipping in and out of consciousness seems like the least threatening scenario we might imagine, but for Freddy Krueger it’s his own personal nightmare. In A Nightmare on Elm Street for the NES you’ll be tasked with collecting Freddy‘s bones in the hopes of burning them in the furnace and sending Krueger‘s spirit up in smoke. Before you can do so however, you’ll face off one last time against Freddy who has since abandoned the tropes of traditional fighting and has instead decided to swat blindly at nothing as he hops about the room. A few gnarled hands will emerge from the earth beneath your feet to keep you moving, but you shouldn’t have much trouble in landing your projectiles against the blind and bouncing Freddy.

#4. THE EVIL ACORN – CONKER’S POCKET TALES (GAME BOY COLOR)

Ignoring that Conker‘s rival in Conker’s Pocket Tales could easily be eaten by him, the Evil Acorn does showcase a bit of malevolence that would have him properly earning his title. Take for instance the final act which sees the nutty adversary using his cunning to trap both Conker and the captive Berri in an underground mine that’s been rigged with powerful explosives. While this would normally bring about images of the maniacal mastermind cackling as he flees the scene via escape route, the Evil Acorn decides that the safest spot happens to be inside the very shaft he’s about to explode! Needless to say the nut is blown sky high as Conker and Berri escape, hurtling him into space where we can assume he’ll run into Wizpig and the Evil Dark Queen.

#3. GENERAL SCALES – STARFOX ADVENTURES (GAMECUBE)

With the final sought-after Krazoa Spirit held captive by General Scales, it would seem that a confrontation between the daunting dino and Sauria savior, Star Fox would be rather inevitable. While this does begin to manifest when both meet up inside the Krazoa Palace and begin to fight, the match briefly abates before the duo can so much as swing a single punch when a booming voice instructs General Scales to forfeit the final Krazoa Spirit without so much as an explanation. Hearing this strange voice for the first time demanding him to essentially sacrifice himself, General Scales complies without reason, cutting off the would-be confrontation before it could begin, offering up the final spirit to Star Fox and collapsing with exhaustion — all after listening to what might well have been Peppy Hare with a megaphone.

#2. KING KROND – MONSTER MAX (GAME BOY)

After decreeing all music on the planet contraband, the insipid King Krond finds himself the target of Monster Max who aims to dethrone the king and restore the power of rock, a task that just might be easier done than said. After trouncing nine levels of the Mega Hero Academy, Max finds Krond sitting at his throne left entirely defenseless at the end of a long hallway. To add insult to injury, King Krond has kept a munition supply of bombs right next to his throne, which Monster Max is free to help himself to, which provokes him into stuffing one right in front of the throne. Without batting an eye, Krond awaits the inevitable as the bomb runs its fuse and explodes in front of him, engulfing both the king and his throne. Thanks for the effort in playing dead Krond, though you might find moving next time might serve you better…

#1. DOCTOR KRACKPOT – GRABBED BY THE GHOULIES (XBOX)

While Baron Von Ghoul might find himself responsible for kidnapping Amber and trapping Cooper inside his monster mansion, Doctor Krackpot ultimately poses more of a threat with his ill inventions causing much turmoil throughout each chapter. Armed with his powerful Ghoulification ray capable of turning any unfortunate individual into a Ghouly, things look rather grim as Cooper finds himself trapped in the laboratory and made the latest target. As a last ditch maneuver, the lad reaches up and uses his finger to block the chamber as Dr. Krackpot fires. As the smoke clears the mad doctor can be seen on the floor in just his underpants, his daunting robotic frame destroyed by the backfire. Excusing himself from the room, an extremely embarrassed Dr. Krackpot makes for an even more embarrassing boss.
