Top 5 Best Content Updates in Sea of Thieves (Anniversary Special)

Avast me hearties! Today marks the one year anniversary for Sea of Thieves and in that time we’ve forged fierce alliances, sent our rivals to the briny depths and sailed off to become Pirate Legends. But alas, the tides are always shifting and Rare have ensured that their world has continued to grow alongside us. If you haven’t set sail for some time and you’re wondering what’s changed since their maiden voyage, you’ve come to the right place. We’re looking back through our spyglasses at each of the Galleon-sized updates that Rare has worked tirelessly on since launch and detailing our favorite additions that have broadened the shores and helped us become the Pirates we’ve wanted to be. Join us as we get a tad retrospective! These are the Top 5 Best Content Updates in Sea of Thieves!

#5. THE HUNGERING DEEP (LAUNCHED MAY 29TH, 2018) – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)

Reaching into the abyss, Rare‘s inaugural update to Sea of Thieves brought Merrick’s quest to the surface where the hunt for a Megalodon Shark known as “The Hungering One” gave pirates everywhere something to really sink their teeth into. With a brand new instrument to wield, and an accompanying shanty along for the voyage, pirates could drum up the ‘Meg’ from the fathoms of The Ancient Isles and conquer the beast with their crew. This update also saw the introduction of the speaking trumpet which would go on as an invaluable tool for forming friendly fleets from afar, which is a sight better than trying to shout over a solid peppering of cannon fire. Appropriately, this update had us hungering to see what else might await us in Sea of Thieves

#4. BILGE RAT ADVENTURES (LAUNCHED JUNE 14TH, 2018) – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)

Starting things off with the Skeleton Thrones addition, the Bilge Rat Adventures offer a chance to embark on ongoing voyages with slightly unorthodox objectives. Completed adventures would earn ‘Bilge Rat Doubloons’, which could be spent on cosmetic details, time sensitive incentives and letters of recommendation for the three trading companies. Since their inclusion, the Bilge Rats have given us Skeleton Thrones, Gunpowder Skeletons, Cursed Mermaid Statues, The Ferrymans’ Flame of Fate and the Reapers Mark. Special occasions have been made especially eventful with Christmas and Friends Play Free Week receiving their own campaigns with Gilded Gifts and Mercenary Voyages respectively. Cheers Duke, the next round is on us!

#3. CURSED SAILS (LAUNCHED JULY 31ST, 2018) – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)

Hardly finished adding treacherous threats to the seas with the Kraken and The Hungering One, Rare unleashed further terror with roving Skeleton Ships that would rise from the depths in a bid to overtake the Outposts. Challenging all pirates in a call-to-action to defend the shores against the undead, the newfound ability to form an Alliance would become an indispensable tool for sharing gold and glory. Wanda’s experimental Cursed Cannonballs also added an entirely new dimension of strategy during ship-to-ship combat, which would go on serve well against Skeleton Ships and rival crews alike. Finish it all off with the launch of the medium-sized Brigantine to bridge the crew-sized gap of the Sloop and Galleon and you’ve got a spectacularly spectral update!

#2. SHROUDED SPOILS (LAUNCHED NOVEMBER 28TH, 2018) – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)

Rolling in with the November fog, Shrouded Spoils lived up to its namesake and then some, positively indulging players with doubloons, recognition and treasure for facing some of the seas most daunting challenges. Cursed Mermaid Statues offered further incentive with lucrative gems when destroyed, while Skeleton Forts now had Ancient Bone Dust and Stronghold Gunpower Barrels included with other enticingly expensive goods when conquered. These rewards were also met with risk however, as battle-harded bootleggers could also seek out roaming Skeleton Galleons and Skeleton Sloops anywhere in Sea of Thieves, along with several new variants of Megalodon Shark that would even have poor Merrick cowering in fear!

#1. FORSAKEN SHORES (LAUNCHED SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2018) – SEA OF THIEVES (XBOX ONE)

Giving entirely new meaning to ‘Thar she blows!’, the Forsaken Shores update established the Devil’s Roar region; an unforgiving chain of volcanic islands filled with enough steaming geysers and molten showers to send the sea boiling. Luckily for pirates unwilling to set their Galleons ablaze, the Forsaken Shores also introduced the rowboat, which made navigating through eruptions a little less reckless. Outside of the Devil’s Roar, marauders looking to strike their sales could do business with the Seaposts now found across the Sea of Thieves. The traders found here were also instrumental in delivering goods during Cargo Runs, which served to break up the Merchants menagerie monotony. In all, this was one update that was nearly too hot to handle!
