What Is “Pants Day”?

Right, if you’ve never heard of Pants Day, you’re in luck! This page is dedicated to explaining the etymology and absurdity of Rare Gamers favorite non-denominational holiday, recognized in every single country except the ones that either participate in daylight savings time, or refuse to change their clocks back and forth by an hour. Right, let’s get on with it!

What is Pants Day?

Pants Day is celebrated once a year, every November 15th in honor of Rare website mascot and survey forerunner, Mr. Pants; a cheeky chap wearing nothing but a bowler hat and a bright red pair of underpants. The date was chosen as it coincides with the North American release of It’s Mr. Pants on Game Boy Advance.

How can one celebrate Pants Day?

You won’t need a tree, or a turkey to celebrate Pants Day, in fact the only way to properly observe the holiday by dressing up is to ensure that you’ve put on a pair of pants, so it’s likely that you’ve been celebrating Pant’s Day year round without even realizing it.

You can also spend some time on the 15th of November playing through It’s Mr. Pants, reading our Top 5 lists that we create specifically for the holiday and by viewing the Rare Revealed: Making Of It’s Mr Pants video.

Why should I even celebrate Pants Day, anyway?

Look, if we can have a holiday where a groundhog predicts the meteorologic and barometric conditions months in advance, which is then made into a film starring Bill Murray and a musical by Tim Minchin, then surely a day where we give undying praise to a mustachioed man in his underpants isn’t such a reach. Happy Pants Day!
