Top 5 Best Rare Zombies

It’s difficult for any aspiring Zombie to stand out in a crowd of corpses and make a killing in the games industry these days, especially when featuring the ranks of the undead in your AAA release is about as common as including an online multiplayer, achievements and hidden heifers. Find yourself among the leagues of the reanimated in Rares titles however, and you’ll find your calling beyond the grave with a creative twist. Hardly content with limping about towards the nearest brain, the following Zombies have managed to retain their poise, their character, their grace, and even (some of) their limbs! Watch out! These Zombies have moxie…err… and also rabies, we’re certain, so don’t get too close… These are the Top 5 Best Rare Zombies.

#5. ELM STREET SHAMBLERS – A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (NES)

While you wouldn’t want to meet Freddy Kreuger in a dark alley, you’ll be forced to run into his legion of undead minions traipsing up and down Elm Street if you want to end the nightmares for good. While these aptly-named “Shamblers” will have you staying faithful to your insomniac binge, things get less terrifying if you lapse into slumber. While the bats turn into demonic flying heads and snakes into werewolves in the Dream World, the zombified Shamblers turn into jaunty Skeletons, which seems a bit of a downgrade. When the chilling creatures in your nightmares are preferable from the horrors you’ll face walking down Elm Street while wide awake, the shambling Zombies found in A Nightmare on Elm Street are freakier than Freddy!

#4. ZOMBIFIED KING JINGALING – BANJO-TOOIE (NINTENDO 64)

While Banjo-Tooie featured Gruntilda rising from her grave to walk amongst the living once more, an even greater Zombie can be found residing in neighboring Jinjo Village, a stones throw away from Grunty‘s grave in Spiral Mountain. After the diplomatic King Jingaling provides the bear and bird duo with their first Jiggy, he joins the ranks of the undead after his entire kingdom is zapped by Grunty’s life force cannon in an act of petty vengeance. The freshly Zombified King Jingaling is hardly friendly, though he will roam endlessly around his throne room while conversing about several Tooie bosses. While his life force is naturally restored near the conclusion of the game by Banjo and Kazooie, his previous exploits as an underworld overlord leave us a little hesitant to get too close…

#3. ZIPPY ZOMBIES – KINECT SPORTS & KINECT SPORTS: SEASON TWO (XBOX 360)

First appearing in the complimentary Party Pack DLC for the original Kinect Sports title, Zippy Zombie became nearly as popular as Rapid Robot while lacking everything that made him popular. Nonetheless, you just can’t keep a good Zombie buried, and after receiving enough punches to legally register him dead a second time, Zippy Zombie returned with friends in another DLC debut for Kinect Sports: Season Two. Tasked with protecting a large pizza in the center of a grave yard in the Darts Vs. Zombies mini-game, you’ll have to stem the oncoming Zippy Zombie horde by tossing comically large darts from above. Once the pizza has been polished off you’ll have the pleasure of choreographing a quick Zombie dance as the others join in. See, they just want your friendship, and perhaps your brain – just a nibble?…

#2. PUTREFIED PIRATES – GRABBED BY THE GHOULIES (XBOX)

While facing off against the undead isn’t an uncommon occurence in Grabbed by the Ghoulies, fetid flatulence feuds with run-of-the-mill Zombies can get rather tiresome. Venture off into the Lighthouse Quarters or Dining Hall however, and you’ll bump into a crew of undead nautical naughties ready to run you through! Along with their eclectic theme borrowing from high strung strings and sea shanties, the Zombie Pirates will shiver you down to your timbers, with a large treasure chest to blow the man down and a sharpened scimitar to splice the main brace! Appearing in large numbers throughout the title, the putrefied pirates are quite a force to be reckoned with, which Cooper soon realizes after he takes care of one of their mates; an Imp named Roger the Cabin Boy. Ya Harr, he was days from his retirement!

#1. REANIMATED ROADKILL – CONKER’S BAD FUR DAY (NINTENDO 64)

With Conker’s Bad Fur Day and its remixed remake, Conker: Live & Reloaded dealing with topical issues like the horrors of war, harsh consequences and scatological sopranos, it was inevitable that he would also branch off to surviving against the undead, obviously. Dealing with a side-splitting hangover for the majority of his Bad Fur Day, the events of the Spooky chapter lead Conker to his ancestors mansion, which happens to be crawling with reanimated villagers. After a brief stint as a vampire bat, Conker is tasked with locating the three hidden keys and escaping the mad monster mansion, armed only with a shotgun, flashlight, and sheer will to survive. There’s just something about watching a shambling squirrel with its eye dangling uselessly that sends our itchy trigger finger twitching madly.
