Top 5 Best Mr. Pants Sightings

Much like the illusive Bigfoot, Mr. Pants hasn’t washed himself in years. Oh, and err… he’s also the subject of mystery and intrigue with his rumored sightings piling up over the years, his notoriety fueling his legend ever onward. Yes, it seems that hidden heifers weren’t the only pasty rotund idols that Rare has squirreled away in their titles just waiting to be uncovered, and in celebration of the ongoing Pants Day festivities, we’ve decided to track down Rare‘s most beloved scantily clad mascot in our favorite titles where he sits in wait. Can you handle the ongoing perplex Pants enigma? Very few of us can. These are the Top 5 Best Mr. Pants Sightings

#5. LOGBOX 720 HAS PASSED ON PANTS PORTED – BANJO-KAZOOIE: NUTS & BOLTS (XBOX 360)

Taking a tour through the mechanical menagerie of LogBox 720 will bring up more than a rampant dust allergy, as several of Rares most beloved series have found themselves as massive Xbox discs littering the floor. While the Spirit of Pants vehicle part may have become a permanent fixture on our hoods, our massive Pants craving would only be sated by finding the gargantuan It’s Mr. Pants game disc and attempting in vein to carry it away with our Sticky Balls dangling far below. While It’s Mr. Pants ultimately found itself released under the Game Boy Advance, Rare‘s hint towards an Xbox Live port was crushed by their disclaimer written on the edge of the disc, which reads: “Our website mascot that somehow managed to get his own game. It’s highly doubtful he’ll get another.” No! The Spirit of Pants lives on!

#4. WHO NEEDS WITHERED PLANTS WHEN YOU’VE GOT MR. PANTS? – VIVA PIÑATA (XBOX 360)

Setting the fashion world alight with his iconic bowler cap and brilliant red underwear, Mr. Pants was one to aspire to when it came to decorating our plethora of piñatas. Luckily if you wanted your garden residents to emulate the tried and trusted fashion faux pas that Mr. Pants had pioneered, it was only a quick trip to the marketplace to purchase the Piñata Accessory Pack 2 DLC to add the Mr. Pants hat to your improved wardrobe. With your Piñatas likely grappling the implications of their newly-found pizazz, the bonafide bowler provided further grooming insight with its description: “Not just a legend on Piñata Island, but also one of Piñata Central’s best customers due to his party-hard lifestyle. This hat symbolizes everything that is right in the world.” If we could all be a little more like Mr. Pants, the world would be a better place.

#3. MR PANTS’ HEAVENLY BODY DEFINES THE ART OF ARSETROLOGY – BANJO-TOOIE (N64)

While Mr. Pants may appear on Boggy’s television set in Banjo-Tooie, he’s an even bigger star in the vastness of space. If you can manage to venture into the Dodgem Dome in Witchyworld, you’ll witness a roiling galaxy slowly swirling around the exterior of the Space Zone that begs for a bit of stargazing. For the most part the stars are fairly static, with only a few clouds of cosmic dust to hold your attention. If you happen to peer out of the chamber windows as the blue cosmic dust slowly passes by however, you’ll spot a collection of stars that have taken on the likeless of Mr. Pants, frozen in an elated state of exuberance. Generally you’ll find that horoscopes are filled with entries about Cancer Crabs and Jet Force Gemini, but which month, year and inane moon phase does one have to fall under to have Mr. Pants as your astrological sign?

#2. TRUE TERROR IS A SMILING MAN IN HIS UNDERPANTS – GRABBED BY THE GHOULIES (XBOX)

While any Rare aficionado would lodge in Ghoulhaven Hall for its sheer number of references toward Banjo-Kazooie and Ultimate: Play the Game, the mansion hardly turns its back on Rare‘s most notorious house guest. From the archives to the rafters, effigies of Mr. Pants can be found in plenty supply throughout the manic mansion, often manifesting itself in Bulletin Board notices, Chalk board outlines, Get Well Soon Cards and even Learning Aides. Perhaps the most intriguing and equally revolting instance of Mr Pants may be found in his own sweets production line called Mr. Pants Chocolate Treats. The implications are staggering of course, but given the amount of empty boxes found around Dunfiddlin’ Cottage, we suspect Fiddlesworth sees no issue with taking ‘homemade’ chocolate from a man in his underpants.

#1. BEFORE MIZAR, THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH ANTS IN THEIR PANTS – JET FORCE GEMINI (N64)

While Jet Force Gemini may be the first title in Rare‘s library to feature Mr. Pants in his Scribes touting glory, it also has the distinction of combining artillery and underpants to create the most threatening enemies found in the Jet Force Gemini Universe. Combing the planetary surface for the heads of their fallen enemies, Vela, Juno and Lupus were tasked with amassing enough disembodied Drone heads to unlock several cheats and secrets throughout their adventure. If you could manage to collect at least 200 combined, your efforts would be rewarded with the “Ants as Pants” mode which turned every Drone enemy into a gun wielding Mr. Pants. The feature even came with a toggle feature that allowed players to turn the Pants back into Ants – why they would ever want to is beyond our understanding…
