Top 5 best Rare party tracks – New Years’ special

With New Years Eve just around the corner, we’re forced to bid 2011 adieu to make room for the spangly new year 2012 with all doomsday hype intact. What does the unseen future hold for Rare in this apocalyptic scenario? Only the big cheeses know for sure – which adds to the whole ‘unseen’ bit – but given the latest years development we’re putting our money down on “Kinect Sports: Division Three – You Can Juggle A Real Ham Sandwich!” and the much anticipated “Mr. Pants Rides Again” for Game Boy Micro. Before we get our hands on either of these titles however, we’ll have to get rid of the ill-fitting year we’ve got on now – and what better way to count down New Years Eve than to count down the entries on this list? We’ve gone through Rare‘s library to find the freshest beats and tubular tunes that will have you dancing the night away to Rare classics of yesteryear. Listen to the tracks for each entry below – just don’t play all of them at once or you’ll have a Rockin’ Rare Overload. Don’t laugh; it’s fatal. These are the Top 5 Best Rare Party Tracks.

#5. REAL PARTY ANIMALS – VIVA PIÑATA

You could be forgiven for being unable to pair this tune with the Viva Piñata; a title filled to the brim with so many orchestral scores sweeping in and out, it might lead you reaching for the tissues before you’ve even stuck a spade into the sand. Leave the action however, and you’ll find that it shows its true colors with a rocking Pause Menu theme. If it wasn’t enough to include a full band cranking out a tune that sounds as though its lost its way to the Top 40 Chart, the mix isn’t complete without intervention from an invisible DJ who scratches a mix so fine that even your Grandmother would shout “Oh, Snap!“. With an Electric Guitar Solo to finish it off with more Cowbell than you know what to do with, you’ll have yourself to midnight in no time.

#4. DO THE ANTS DANCE – JET FORCE GEMINI

Sci-fi epic Jet Force Gemini can’t help but have a slice of the funk pie – it’s set in the far future so Techno has obviously come a ways since. When not blasting at formidable Formicidae and claiming their heads like sick trophies, Juno, Vela and their wardog, Lupus can be found in the Big Bug Fun Club where the music is constantly switching from one ambient track to the next, offering four mixes in one! Watch as Julo continually embarrasses himself during the end credits by preforming outdated (to them) dance moves to a groovy disco opener, fast trance midsection with upbeat Techno bit and a slow jazzy finisher. It’s almost too much to handle in one sitting; clearly Vela‘s thoughts as she watches her twin brother do the Hustle to no end. The horror!

#3. BALLROOM DISCO – GRABBED BY THE GHOULIES

While you might consider Ghoulhaven Hall owner, Baron Von Ghoul a bit of a nutter – as one naturally would suspect after seeing a grown man fly around in a pantomime plane during his offtime – you’d have to commend him on devoting most spacious room in his house to serving as an elaborate dance floor. While it’s likely been a while since the Baron has had any guests over to hold a proper Friday night dance at the Embassy, the Ghoulies have turned the floor into a proper Monster Mash. A Mummy DJ leads the Electric Sliding Skeletons and Zoot Suit Zombies around the floor with a disco scratch remix of the Grabbed by the Ghoulies theme. There’s even an Electric Guitar solo that’s found its way in as well to keep you up all night long shaking!

#2. BOTTLES HOUSE BEATS – BANJO-TOOIE

After reviving Bottles the previously deceased Mole and a Zombified King Jinjaling with the Hags B.O.B Lifeforce Gun, the Bear and Bird duo make headway for the Top of the Tower for a showdown with Gruntilda. Unbeknownst to both Banjo and Kazooie however, the squat Mole and Jinjo Village overlord have celebrated their recent revivals with a massive party thrown in the duos honor. Give Bottles‘ house a visit before dealing with Wartbutt and you’ll find his door firmly shut, with a remixed dance version of the house theme thudding away inside. You can do little more than wait outside the door and listen in on the party you’re missing, but the image of Bottles jiggling atop a table will provide some solace. Maybe… No… No, it won’t.

#1. ROCK SOLID HITS – CONKER’S BAD FUR DAY

Our top pick has to go to a Rare character who knows how to party, and aside from Taj, the Packyderm Genie from Diddy Kong Racing, the Red Squirrel Conker of Bad Fur Day fame may know how to party much too well. After succumbing to a splitting hangover from a very good night at the Cock and Plucker, our morally responsible and adorable drunkard Conker does what we’d all do – hit up an exclusive joint, drink too much and proceed to urinate on all the patrons inside. Rock Solid is exactly what such a club would feature, with its dim lighting, dancers, and an addicting beat that will have you wanting to dance yourself. Give this one a listen on New Years; just try to keep from urinating on Dad – you know how much he hates that…
