ex-Rare / Free Radical staff create new studio

Founded by Steve Ellis, Martin Wakeley and Lee Musgrave back in November 2011, Crash Lab has three games in development.

Ellis worked on legendary FPS GoldenEye while at Rare. He went on to found Free Radical which worked on the TimeSplitters series, spiritual sequels to his N64 Bond hit.

Wakeley was a designer and producer at Rare who joined Ellis at Free Radical when Microsoft bought our boys and gals in Twycross.

Musgrave was head artist at Rare where he worked on many things, the Xbox Avatars amongst them.

Free Radical became Crytek UK after the company went into administration back in 2009 and were bought out by Crytek. They kicked off by working on the multiplayer part of Crysis 2 then moving on to Homefront 2.

Speaking to GamesIndustry International, Steve Ellis said “It’s an exciting time to be making games. It’s great to have thrown off the shackles of traditional console development and to be able to enjoy the creative freedom of working on titles without exhaustive development cycles. We are working with some great people and we are looking forward to sharing more details of our exciting projects very soon”.

Crash Lab’s website can be found here; http://www.crashlab.co.uk/. One to watch, methinks.
