In case you missed it, that’s thirty games for thirty bucks – if you’re Canadian (like most of you aren’t) that’s a Loonie per game! You’d have to be a loonie yourself not to pounce on such a lucrative compilation! But maybe you’re just not convinced; perhaps you’re especially thick, or you don’t quite understand how transactions work – that’s fine! We’ve got you sorted with five more persuading arguments that should have you rocking uncontrollably in your chair with building anticipation! Get ready to race off for a preorder! These are the Top 5 Reasons You Should Be Overwhelmingly Excited For Rare Replay!

#5. REPLAY YOUR FAVORITE RARE TITLES OF THE PAST LIKE YOU NEVER HAVE BEFORE!

Rare Replay is more than just a collection of retro titles – if it were, you could just recreate the experience faithfully by daisy-chaining your consoles together in a confusing mess of wires, cartridges and hot shame when your parents walked in. Instead, Rare Replay showcases 30 classic titles running natively on the Xbox One, each with a new mode of play specifically realized for this well-packed compilation. Hardened completionists hoping to prove their worth can choose to run a Battletoads gauntlet from start to finish just as they remember it, while casual fans might choose to slip in and out of bite-sized challenges with the Snapshot feature. Whether you’re setting new records, mastering old favorites or simply discovering a hidden gem that you’ve never tried before, there’s truly something for everyone in this epic collection!

#4. EARN ACHIEVEMENTS RETROACTIVELY FOR AN IMPRESSIVE 10,000 GAMERSCORE!

We’re more than a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to polishing off thirty years of Rare hits; we’ve completed Challenge 21 and managed a Super Scary Score of 100 in Grabbed by the Ghoulies, we’ve attained all Platinum Medals in Blast Corps. and we’ve even heard that someone beat Muddle Mode in It’s Mr. Pants (We believe that ‘cheevos can be earned vicariously!) But what do we have to show for it? No achievements, and also a minor neurotic disorder according to leading psychoanalysts. Fortunately the former has been remedied in Rare Replay, with enough achievements to snag in games of new and old to equate to a whopping 10,000 gamerscore! We can’t wait to pit ourselves against some of Rare‘s most notorious titles with an achievement worth bragging about. Turbo Tunnel here we come!

#3. DOMINATE THE COMPETITION WITH INTENSE LOCAL AND ONLINE MULTIPLAYER MATCHES!

While some of Rare‘s titles may have been best enjoyed in solitude like the serene freefalling of Solar Jetman, there were a number of classic titles of yesteryear that were renowned for their fast-paced local multiplayer that we’re not soon to forget. From the frantic fights on Felicity in Perfect Dark, to the harrowing hold-outs within Heist from Conker’s Bad Fur Day, these matches forged friendships and inspired rivalries lasting hours, months and even years. With a second lease of life in Rare Replay, we’re positively giddy to relive our favorite multiplayer memories on the Xbox One! With each title looking better than it ever has, and the controls receiving an update with modern conventions in mind, it shouldn’t be too hard to coax some friends in revisiting familiar stomping grounds in the living room and across the world!

#2. UNLOCK TASTY BEHIND-THE-SCENES CONCEPT ART, INTERVIEWS, UNSEEN TITLES AND MORE!

If our former list was any indication, we are absolutely in love with behind-the-scenes content that details a games development; concept art, unused tunes, scrapped features – it’s like poetry. Fortunately if you find yourself in the same camp you’ll be pleased to know that Rare Replay is chock full of previously unseen development work in Rare Revealed for the titles on show, and even features art and information towards titles that never saw the light of day outside of Twycross such as the mysterious Sundown and Black Widow! Couple this with insightful interviews from artists, musicians, programmers and designers who worked on critical classics like Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini and Banjo-Kazooie and you’ve granted yourself a cheeky sneak peek into the prestigious Rare vault – that’s worth the price of admission alone!

#1. REPLAY THE LATEST AND GREATEST RARE HITS SOONER RATHER THAN LATER!

With much of the E3 showcase available next year, there’s an element to bittersweetness when you’ve pined for a game for years, only to come upon the realization that you’ll need to wait that much longer after viewing the teaser trailer. Luckily, fans of Rare Replay will only need to sustain patience as a virtue until August 4th when the title hits store shelves. With most releases starting at sixty dollars, and a new wave of eighty dollar investments on the horizon, netting a massive portion of Rare‘s collection for nearly a third of the price in a few months time seems too good to be true! Alas, Rare Replay is on its way, and everything this compendium of classic goodness has going for it only sweetens the deal. If you’re a Rare fan of any description you owe it to yourself to add this one to your collection as soon as possible!

  1. All I want to know is how they handled the non-previously-remastered N64 ports. Did they go through and give all the games the same treatment as Banjo and Perfect Dark, or did they just put the games through an emulator and call it a day? I’d guess they did the same thing Nintendo did with the Gamecube ports of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, which still use N64 ROMs but changed the graphics and text to match the Gamecube’s control scheme (ie, Z-targeting became L-targeting).

Bottom line: Will Jet Force Gemini control like balls?
