DKC / DKL trilogies coming to Wii U and 3DS

The sublime Donkey Kong Country trilogy, first released on the Super NES back in the mid to late 90s, is being made available on the Wii U’s eShop over the next three weeks, starting with the original DKC this Thursday 16th October. All three games will cost £5.49 each.

Joining them at the same time in the 3DS eShop is the Donkey Kong Land trilogy, originally released on the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. These three games will set you back £3.49 apiece.

On top of that, Nintendo are offering a discounted price for the eShop versions of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Wii U and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on 3DS if you purchase any of the original trilogy games beforehand on the respective console, so if you buy DKC on Wii U, DKC: Tropical Freeze will then have the discount applied. However, these discounts only run until 6th November.

All six of the original games are what I’d consider to be essential purchases, even if you’ve already played them or own them in some other capacity. The added incentive to get hold of the two latest games in the series at a reduced price is too good to pass up.

  1. What?! When was this announced?! And why isn’t it coming to the US?!

  2. only for europe. ouch.

  3. Us here in the states had Donkey Country on the Wii’s virtual console taken from us, did that ever happen to you guys in Europe too?

  4. Yeah, they were taken down for us too. However, if you had already purchased them before that happened they remained available to download if you ever deleted them from your Wii. You also get the discount when buying the Wii U versions.
